"Good-bye, Ginette! Good-bye, Congo!" "Good-bye, Mother!
Good-bye, Korea!"
Ginette, a Congolese Swimmer Left Korea, Cherishing the Country of Mother
in Her Heart
On September 3 at 6am, familiar faces are seen at Daegu International
Airport; they are busy preparing farewell. Just about 10 days ago, the
airport was filled with shout for joy welcoming friends from afar. But
today their heart are somewhat heavy like the cloudy weather.
Finishing 11 days' games, each country team is returning to their country.
Athletes are to be happy in the thought of meeting their loving family
soon. But their faces don't look bright, either. They look back again
and again as if they engrave their friends' faces on their hearts.
At a corner of the airport, Congolese team has been waiting for their
check-out. Ginette a Congolese swimmer is looking around as if she was
looking for someone. Seeing Aurah Supporters and the translator coming
hurriedly to her, she bursts into tears; for she and supporters have shared
deep friendship during the short period of the Universiade: the happy
city tour time, and supporters' earnest and resounding shout of cheer.
Now she is to go far to her country without knowing when she will be able
to meet them again.
Though she tries to speak some words to the translator and her supporters,
her throat is chocked with streaming tears; she only sobs. Holding Ginette's
hands tightly, her friends also shed tears.
At the departure area on the 2nd floor, Ginette, being surrounded by
the supporters, sobs more. If one of supporters gives a word, she more
weeps, rather than cool down. Supporters seat her on a chair and console
her for a several tens of minutes. However, her tears wouldn't stop. Covering
her mouth with a handkerchief, twitching her shoulders, she shed tear
endlessly.
"I
don't like to go. I want to be with you forever." Though she barely
expressed her wish, the departure time has come.
Ginette with a little package prepared during city tour leaves the departure
area, turning back again and again with waving her handkerchief and wiping
her tears. The shout "WE ♡ U" has sunk into supporters' sobs.
One of the supporters who have been sending off athletes from 6am for
one week said with tears in her eyes, "Seeing Ginette crying at the
airport, I felt the heart of a Mother who sends off her daughter to a
far off country. Though we were different in color and language, all the
athletes returned, realizing our love and true heart. I really hope to
see them again."
The 11 days of the Universiade were not a short period for athletes and
supporters to build friendship. It was enough to realize the Dream For
Unity over borders.
"I will not forget Korea the Country of Mother
until the day of my death."
Though a full interview with Ginette was impossible for her sobbing, this
reporter hopes Ginette meets with Aurah Supporters again with tears of
joy.
